Update on Action Champlain to combat UCPR's decision - April 27, 2017

Action Champlain wishes to inform all residents of the Township of Champlain and the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (CUPR) of the steps taken to combat the decision to approve the Amendment No. 30 of CUPR’s Official Plan, an amendment requested by Colacem Canada Inc. to enable it to construct a cement plant on land adjacent to its quarry on the Country Road # 17.

Action Champlain needs financial contributions to pay professional fees to appeal of UCPR's decision - February 10th, 2017

Action Champlain has hired two experienced lawyers, Me Ronald F. Caza and his colleague Me Érik Labelle, as well as the services of an urban planner who likes to work with communities and an environmental expert. Action Champlain works very closely with these professionals to prepare the file. According to similar cases, it is estimated that the professional and administrative expenses for the appeal process could cost up to $ 250,000. Action Champlain needs financial contributions from all Champlain and surrounding residences to defray professional fees to appeal the decision of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) to the Ontario Municipal Board. If you have a property, we suggest making a contribution equivalent to 0.25% of the value of your property.

E-3695 Petition to the Government of Canada open till March 2,2022

SIGN HERE the petition before March 2nd 2022, 11:33 am. We must attain 500 signatures in order for it to be presented to the House of Commons.

Whereas:

  • The Government of Canada has made a commitment to carbon neutrality;
  • Highly polluting industries often have the opposite impact;
  • The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has guidelines for the use of explosives in or near Canadian fishing waters;
  • There is a need to establish guidelines on all impacts (air, water, sound, shockwave) caused by the use of explosives near residential areas; and
  • The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the federal government has the right to overrule provincial decisions on climate change issues, and Canada recently adopted legislation to respect the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:

1. Stop construction of all new facilities used by highly polluting industries, such as cement plants, nuclear waste facilities, factories, and so on, until there has been in-depth consultation (accepting refusal, if that is the case) with the indigenous communities whose natural surroundings will be affected by the project;

2. Request that a comprehensive review be conducted by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on the impacts on wildlife if the construction project affects interprovincial or international waters; and

3. Request that a review be conducted by a neutral third party and not by firms hired by the companies attempting to build the projects, and that the costs of these reviews be paid for by those companies.

 Sign this petition, open till March 2, 2022 11:33 a.m.

Come protest against the cement plant August 17th!

 IMPORTANT! … PLEASE SHOW UP!

Next Tuesday, August 17th at 7 pm in front of the Colacem Quarry at 2410 County Rd 17, L’Orignal, come and participate in this protest organized by Konstantine Malakos to show our opposition to the cement plant project.

Let us show solidarity and determination towards this insane project for our beautiful region, a project imposed on our community of the Champlain Township by the CUPR.

This action and presence by our community is extremely important to draw attention towards the media, our elected officials and decision makers.
